David Leo Schmidt

Mr. David Schmidt of Nashville, IL departed this life in the emergency room of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, IL on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 12:20 A.M. after a sudden illness. He had attained the age of 61 years, 2 months, and 27 days.
David was born in Nashville on December 26, 1962, the son of Leo and Kay (nee Kellerman) Schmidt.
Mr. Schmidt was a 1981 graduate of Nashville Community High School and attended Kaskaskia College. While in high school, he worked at Clark’s Amoco in Nashville and has worked as a mechanic at Precision Automotive and Truck Service in Nashville for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4384 in Nashville. He was of the Catholic faith.
David enjoyed bringing smiles to the faces of kids and helping others. He would dress up as the Easter Bunny and make appearances at various Easter parties. At Christmas time, he would drive Santa and Mrs. Clause into Nashville on his firetruck. He always volunteered to help at the chicken and fish dinners in Pinckneyville. Since his high school days, he parked cars and directed traffic for events held at Nashville High School.
Left to mourn his passing are his two brothers, Danny Schmidt and wife Tina of Nashville, and Don Schmidt and wife Lori of Pinckneyville, IL; two sisters, Janet Seyler and husband Kevin of Nashville and Cindy Jaworski and husband Steve of Powder Springs, GA; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. Following the visitation, cremation will be performed, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus for their Intellectual Disabilities fund drive and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
