Two were injured in a single-vehicle crash at State Route 15 and Sparrow Lane in Jefferson County around 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 4.
According to an incident report from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the National Guard was coming back from training and possible mechanical issues reportedly caused the vehicle to go off road and travel through the ditch before striking the ditch. The LMTV reportedly went airborne before striking a telephone pole and coming to rest on its top. The driver was airlifted from the scene to St. Louis University Hospital and the passenger was transported by Litton’s Ambulance to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Rend Lake Towing uprighted the vehicle and towed it. Sheriff Jeff Bullard did not release the names of the driver and passenger, as he said he does not know the nature of the National Guard’s purpose.
