NCHS boys basketball won two games last weekend over Frankfort and Red Bud.
The Hornets defeated Red Bud 65-60 at the Rich Herrin Classic at Benton on Saturday, February 3. The Hornets led 15-12 after a quarter. The Hornets trailed 31-28 at halftime. The two teams were tied at 45-45 after three quarters.
Maddox Ritzel had 24 points and 14 rebounds, Ty Schoenherr had 20 points, Ethan Pinski, Parker Schoenberg and Isaac Blazier each had 5 points and Parker Renken and John Blumhorst each had 3 points. Blazier also had 5 assists and Renken had 3 steals.
After two points from Red Bud to open the fourth quarter, Nashville scored the next five points to take a 50-47 lead with three points from Schoenherr and two points from Blumhorst. After another two points from Red Bud, Nashville went on a 5-0 run with two points from Ritzel and three points from Schoenherr to take a 55-49 lead. After three points from Red Bud, Nashville scored the next five points with three points from Schoenherr and two points from Ritzel to take a 60-52 lead. After two points from Red Bud, Nashville went on a 4-0 run with two points each from Blazier and Ritzel to take a 64-54 lead. Red Bud ended the game on a 6-1 run with a Schoenherr free throw being Nashville’s only point in that stretch.
Nashville scored the first three points of the game on a Ritzel two pointer and Blumhorst free throw. After two points from Red Bud, Nashville scored the next three points on a Schoenherr two pointer and Ritzel free throw to take a 6-2 lead. After two points from Red Bud, Ritzel made a two pointer to give Nashville an 8-4 lead. After two more points from Red Bud, Nashville went on a 5-0 run with three points from Renken and two points from Ritzel to take a 13-6 lead. Red Bud went on a 6-0 run before Nashville rattled off eight straight points to take a 21-12 lead with three points apiece from Pinski and Schoenherr and two points from Schoenberg. Red Bud then went on a 10-0 run to take a 22-21 lead. Pinski then made two free throws to give Nashville a 23-22 lead. After three more points from Red Bud, Schoenberg made a three pointer to give Nashville a 26-25 lead. After three more points from Red Bud, Schoenherr made a two pointer to tie the score at 28-28 before Red Bud ended the half with a three pointer.
Ritzel opened the second half with a two pointer before Red Bud scored two points to give the Musketeers a 33-30 lead. After a Blazier free throw, Red Bud scored three points to take a 36-31 lead. After a Blazier two pointer, Red Bud scored two more points to take a 38-33 lead. Nashville then went on a 6-0 run to take a 39-38 lead with three points apiece from Schoenherr and Ritzel. After Red Bud scored three points, Ritzel scored four straight points to give Nashville a 43-41 lead. After three more points from Red Bud, Ritzel made two free throws to give Nashville a 45-44 lead. Red Bud scored the final point of the third quarter.
The Hornets defeated Frankfort at home 72-46 on Friday, February 2. The Hornets led 11-4 after one quarter, 36-17 at halftime and 55-33 after three quarters. Ritzel had 29 points, Blazier had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals, Griffin Briles had 9 points, Pinski had 8 points, Blumhorst had 7 points, Schoenberg had 4 points, Renken had 3 points and Schoenherr had 2 points and 3 steals.
