Find Giving Trees in Your Local Community

As the holiday shopping season kicks into gear, consider shopping for someone in need. The Washington County 4-H Federation is sponsoring a Giving Tree program this year. The trees contain tags which will help you buy gifts for children at Hoyleton Youth and Family Services. Each tag includes the child’s gender, age and what type of item they need.

Giving Trees are located at Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank in Hoyleton, Tom’s Grocery Store in Nashville, Oakdale State Bank in Oakdale and the Washington County Extension Office in Nashville.

Please return items and the tag you picked to the Washington County Extension Office in Nashville no later than December 9. No need to wrap! For more information, call the Washington County Extension Office at 618-327-8881.

Master Gardner Training Makes a Great Gift

University of Illinois will be offering Master Gardener training for area residents starting in January. Training will begin January 26, 2016 for Extension Unit 23 which includes Bond, Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington Counties.

If you know someone who loves gardening and sharing their knowledge with others along with working on volunteer projects in their community then you should consider giving the gift of knowledge. They do not need to be skilled gardeners just have the desire to learn about gardening. The course will cover a wide variety of topics over ten sessions including annuals, perennials, woody plants, vegetables, insects and diseases, soils, fruits, lawns, and a whole lot more. The Master Gardener program is open to any adult.

Everyone has someone on their list that is hard to buy for (or maybe it’s you). Consider giving the Master Gardener course to friends and family who love to garden. Register today for upcoming classes; deadline is December 15. This class is taught by University of Illinois Educators and includes a detailed reference book as part of the course. For additional information call 618-526-4551.

University of Illinois Extension provides equal opportunities in programs and employment. If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, contact the extension office at (618)327-8881
