Charlotte Swoboda

Charlotte Elizabeth Spindler Swoboda, 91, of Belleville died Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at her home at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Apartment Community, Belleville.

Charlotte was born on September 12, 1924, in St. Louis, the third and youngest daughter of Victor Spindler and Bertha Jury Spindler. Charlotte grew up in Cahokia and later Dupo; she attended Holy Family School, and then graduated in May, 1942 from Dupo Community High School. On August 13, 1949, she married Ed Swoboda.

Ed and Charlotte moved from Dupo to a farm in East Carondelet in 1953, where they raised four children: Rodney, Julianne, Thomas, and Melissa. In 1964 the family moved to a farm in Nashville, where Ed and Charlotte also opened and jointly managed Farmers Mid-County Feed Company. Charlotte was a member of St. Ann’s Parish in Nashville. After Ed’s death, Charlotte moved to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, where she was an active member of the Apartment Community for almost 10 years.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Spindler and Bertha Jury Spindler; her sisters, Eula Spindler Touchette and Helen Spindler Masera; and her husband, Edward Swoboda.

Surviving are her children Rod (Eileen) Swoboda of Des Moines, Iowa; Julie (Jim) Borrenpohl of Okawville, Tom (Sandy) Swoboda of Nashville, and Melissa (Doug) Dolan of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren Lucas (Debbie) Borrenpohl, Erin (Brad) Luechtefeld, Zachary Borrenpohl, Seth (Nicole) Swoboda, Frank Swoboda, Tyler (Stephanie) Swoboda, Catherine Swoboda, and Christopher Dolan McIntyre; and her great-grandchildren, Harrison and Owen Borrenpohl, Raegan and Lydia Luechtefeld, Ainsley Swoboda, and Violet Swoboda.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, to the American Cancer Society, to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at the Shrine of our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, to the American Lung Association, or to Family Hospice. Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, November 28 at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Apartment Community, Belleville. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Dupo.
