LaVerna Ann Finke, 93 of Nashville, peacefully joined her Heavenly Father on Friday, October 9, 2015, at Friendship Manor Health Center in Nashville.

Born to the late Frederick and Olinda (Riechman) Moeller on June 29, 1922, in Plum Hill Township, LaVerna’s was a life of deep faith, love and family. A longstanding member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville, her strong Christian beliefs formed the foundation of the faithful life she lived. Not a day went by that LaVerna didn’t walk “In the Garden” with her Lord and Savior, even when faced with life’s trials and tribulations. Following in His footsteps, no one was ever a stranger to LaVerna.

She touched everyone with her kindness, wonderful sense of humor, infectious laughter, and the glorious way her face would light up when loved ones entered a room. She will be remembered for these traits, the strength she showed in times of adversity, and her undying commitment to her beliefs. Most of all, LaVerna will be remembered for the deep, endless love she held in her heart for her family and friends.

On November 7, 1942, LaVerna married Leo C. Finke in St. Louis, and two years later started a family. Together for 28 years until Leo’s untimely death in 1970, they raised their three children and instilled in them the same importance of faith and family.

LaVerna worked for 17 years as a cook at Nashville Middle School and for 25 years as a custodian for Farm Service Agency.

Left to honor her life and remember her love are LaVerna’s three children, Bobbie Sue (Larry R.) Thomas of Oakdale, Donnie (Shirley) Finke of Champaign, and Connie (Michael) Lopez of Godfrey; a foster son; Gary Klingler of Nashville; a sister, Bernice Wetzel of Nashville; five grandsons, Jeffrey (Laura) Finke, Brian Thomas, Kevin Finke, Brad (Rhonda) Thomas, and Jordan Lopez; eight great grandchildren, Whitney, Michael, Britney, Nicholas, Brinna, Tyler, Timothy, and Ashley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Arnold Moeller; sister, Mildred Hale; and grandson, Brett Thomas.

Funeral services for LaVerna will be held on Friday, October 16, at 1:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Nashville with Rev.’s Aaron Kotila and Matthew Wietfeldt officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Nashville. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service on Friday at the church.
