Cross Country Kicks Off Their Season In New Athens

The Hornets and Hornettes each kicked off their season this past Tuesday at the New Athens Invitational. It was the first time for Nashville to go to this event. All the runners for Nashville competed in the event.

The boys took first place overall in the event with a score of 51. Leading the way for the Hornets was Brandon Schnitker, who crossed the line first overall with a time of 16:47. Schnitker was followed by Jackson Pierce, who finished eighth overall with a time of 17:44. Ryan Kell finished third on the team with a time of 17:56 followed closely by Ray Bailey and Caleb Zgonina.

The girls finished fifth place overall with a score of 140. Grace Maschhoff led the Hornettes across the finish line with a time of 21:54, good for eleventh place overall. Brittnie Bartling was the second finisher for the Hornettes finishing seventeenth overall with a time of 22:40. Following Bartling for the Hornettes was Jaylyn Bower with a time of 23:13, which was good for 22nd overall. Tianna Kozuszek and Johnna Bergmann rounded out the top five finishers for the Hornettes finishing 44th and 46th respectively.
