Junior Hornettes Open Volleyball Season

Nashville Middle School’s Junior Hornettes’ volleyball season is off and running.

Nashville won its first match in the St. Ann Tournament over Field 21-14, 21-14. Kylie Kozuszek was the star of that match, finishing with 11 service points in the two games.

Okawville topped NMS in the second match of the day by a score of 21-19, 21-8. The host school handed the Junior Hornets their second loss on the day, 21-13, 23-21.

After a two-week layoff, NMS was back at it Feb. 12 against Sparta. Nashville came out on top of a three-game match, 25-20, 22-25, 15-11. That win evened the team’s record at 2-2.

Weather played havoc on the schedule, causing matches against Pinckneyville and Trico to be cancelled before a rusty Nashville squad fell to Murphysboro 25-15, 25-19 Feb. 23. In the B-game against Murphy, Elise Spencer led her team with 13 serves.

Nashville came back with a three-game win over DuQuoin last Tuesday. Despite slumping a bit in the second game, the Junior Hornettes were able to put together a 25-13, 15-25, 15-9 win.

Chester was no match for a hot Nashville squad, as the Junior Hornettes came away with a 25-15, 25-15 win Thursday.

Kortney Stroud hammered home five kills in the match, and Jadah Heidel and Kylie Kozuszek each served ten times in the match.

In the B-game, Raquel Elliott and Spencer each had a total of 16 serves.
