University of Illinois Master Naturalist Open House

University of Illinois Extension will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m.-noon to highlight the upcoming Master Naturalist Training that will be offered February. Extension staff and current Master Naturalists will be on hand to meet you, discuss program details and share with you what they enjoy most about being a University of Illinois Master Naturalist.

If you love being outdoors and exploring the natural areas around you or have a natural curiosity to explore nature and the environs then you will want to attend this informational open house. You do not need any special skills or equipment to become a Master Naturalist, just the ability to learn and share your knowledge and passion with others in the community. This program helps us reach our goal of “Helping others connect with nature.”

Program participants will learn from area experts about many different aspects of the natural resources of our region. A combination of classroom instruction and hands on field work will be used to present information about: Aquatics, Birds, Forests, Soil, Geology, Insects, Mammals, Urban Wildlife, Prairies, Reptiles and Amphibians and more. Through the outside activities you may discover natural areas that you were unaware of, work and meet with other outdoor enthusiasts along with spending time with like-minded participants. The course includes a book that includes information on each presentation with a few bonus chapters not presented. This program will be hosted by University of Illinois Extension Unit 23, which includes Bond, Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington Counties.

The open house will be at the Washington County Extension office in Nashville. For additional information call 618-526-4551 or visit .
